Our Classroom Library We are very luck to have a large classroom library. I have been collecting books for ten years and have found some really great selections through EBay. The Nonfiction section includes thebaskets seen left. Each basket is based on a theme (space, pioneers, habitats, Halloween, etc.). There is a second nonfiction section listed below (see blue tubs) that are also by theme (magnets, matter, government, etc.). We also have a fiction section that is sorted by author (see red tubs) and a section by series (see yellow tubs). We have a chapter books as well as baskets designated for our Cornerstone strategies. These baskets will grow as we devleop awareness of each reading strategy. The library is also filled will magazines, reading buddies, comfortable pillows, fun chairs, bean bags, and provide opportunities for reading through book nooks. |

Book Nooks Our classroom is filled with fun, inviting, comfortable places for students to read and learn. In any classroom space is often a precious commodity. To conserve on space pillows and stored under chairs as well as in the rocking chair. The pillows serve as their own reading area. When students are ready to find a quiet place to read they grab a pillow and off they go to find a quiet book nook area al their own. The chairs are pushed together to create a buddy reading area and the rocking chair and deep red chair make perfect reading spots for avid readers. |

Grouping
of Students Students share supplies which really helps to make sure everyone has what they need and prevents students from playing in their desk during work time. Each group of four students is assigned a color. The pencil baskets on their table indicate the color for that table. When the orange table is called they move to a designated area of the room to locate and retrieve the materials for their table. There is a caddy which holds glue sticks, dry erase markers, dry erase erasers, scissors, and sticky notes. There is a seperate basket for crayons which holds 5 full packs of crayons. In addition each table has a basket for sorting supplies and manipulatives and a bin for holding spiral notebooks or composition books. |

Literacy Stations Literacy Stations are not the major focal point they were in second grade, but still play a vital role in ensuring students master the skills they need. Literacy Stations begin with student placing their name the Work Station pocket char which will provide a list of the available centers. Literacy Stations are stored in tubs with a bright shing star indicating the materials housed in the tub. The poetry center is based on Cornerstone Workshop strategies (schema, inferring, visualization, etc.). Literacy Stations occur twice a week during I.D.R. (Independent Daily Reading). During this time Mrs. McDavid meets with two Guided Reading Groups. |

Classroom
Organization Classroom organization is a major part of our classroom. In third grade students learn how to become organized learners. In our classroom everything has a place and we are real sticklers for making sure everything is returned to its orginal home after each and every use. |
