Greetings from Mrs. Thomas'
Second Grade Class in Springfield, Kentucky! We have 19
students in our class-12 boys and 7 girls. Our school has grades
Preschool through 5th.
Kentucky became a
state in 1792. It is home to the Kentucky Derby (1st Saturday in May), numerous horse farms,
Mammoth Cave (the
|
longest
cave system in the world!), and the birthplace of our
16th president, Abraham Lincoln. The marriage certificate
of President Lincoln's parents can be found in our courthouse
which is the oldest still in use in our state. President
Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, KY, not far from
here.
Kentucky's nickname is "The Bluegrass
State". Bluegrass is a type of grass that grows in
Kentucky. Bluegrass is not really blue - it's green -
but in the spring, bluegrass produces bluish-purple buds that,
when seen in large fields, gives a rich blue cast to the
grass. Our state bird is the cardinal and our state
flower is the goldenrod.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!

the top. It sits in front of the Mississippi
River. If you don't have a baseball team to cheer form
please cheer for our Baseball Cardinals and Albert Pujols.
If we win the World Series, we will send you a souvenir.

Our winters
get pretty cold and snowy. We can ski nearby.
Our summer

Washington was founded in 1776 and is said to
be the first town named fro George Washington. It is located
on the Pamlico River east of Greenville, NC. NC's top three
manufacturing growth industries are chemicals/allied products,
rubber/plastic, and tobacco products. NC has three landforms
that make up the geographic regions of the state: the Coastal Plain,
the Piedmont, and the Mountains. Our state nickname is
"The Tar Hill State". We are currently learning about
amphibians, greater than/less than numbers and skip counting.
We are very excited about being a part of your postcard exchange
program this year. We look forward to hearing from your class!

Dear Friends,
We live in western Massachusetts near the New York
state border. We have twelve students in our class, seven girls and five boys. Right now the weather is very nice with lots of
sun, although the mornings are
|
starting to get cold.
Fall is here and the trees are beginning to turn beautiful colors. By December we will
probably have lots of snow. We live in a medium sized city
surrounded by lots of mountains and lakes and a lot of small
farms. We are learning about apples and we are planning a trip
tot eh apple orchard so we can pick our own. We will celebrate
Johnny Appleseed's birthday by making applesauce in our room.
Our Monarch caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly and we let
it go today. Our state is famous because the Pilgrims landed
here and celebrated The First Thanksgiving. Please write back
so we can mark you on our map.

Greeting from our
class in Ozark, Arkansas. We are excited to send you
information about our state.
|
The term Arkansas means
"south wind" and is derived from a name used by some
Native Americans to describe the Quapaws, and early Indian tribe in
the area.
Arkansas's state capital is Little Rock. Our
state flower is the Apple Blossom and the state bird in the
Mockingbird. If you visit the Crater of Diamonds State Park
located near Murfreesboro, you can go on a diamond search and keep
what you find.
We look forward to
hear from you! Mrs. Mitchell's Class

Greetings from
Michigan!Our
state has an upper peninsula and a lower peninsula, along with
many islands. Our state is
|
easy to identify
because the lower peninsula is shaped like a mitten! We live in the
Elk Rapids area, which is surrounded by lakes, including Lake
Michigan and Torch Lake. Michigan is nicknamed "The Great
Lakes State" because we are bordered by four of the five Great
Lakes. We get a lot of snow, and it's a great place to ski, snowshoe,
sled, and snowboard in the winter. In the summer, there are
many places to camp and hike. We are looking forward to
hearing from you, and thanks if we already have!
